BANYAN TREE DESIGNS

KEY WEST has many banyan trees. They're very sculptural: twisting broad trunks with expansive roots and pendant air-roots.
This oil painting (in progress) has a rough-textured background (palette knife) with roots and leaves laid over using stencils I cut from Strathmore bristol paper.

Since the texture of the board is rough, the stencils can be wiped and flipped for variations
without adding too much unintended paint littering the surface.

MOSAIC PROJECT

My contribution to the traveling mural of 6 x 6 inch canvases.
"DOGGIE BAR" is alkyd oil on canvas and is a more permanent

Crafting "Enhanced Vessels"

Clifford Ward
is artist-in-residence at
THE STUDIOS OF KEY WEST.
He works with plaster cloth
and gave a half-day workshop in the technique.
"Instant gratification" was heard several times
this morning.
Balloons are wed to plastic and paper bases
with two layers of the wet plaster-coated strips.
You can fold and twist it for textures.
Next it will get a finish coat of gesso
and a paint job.

NICELY FRAMED...

"HER MAJESTY"
slipped through the cracks
when I shot all the new dog paintings.
The frame was painted first
so I needed to make a royal hound to fill it.
Oil on collage.

She was just going to be
"QUEEN MUTT"
but couldn't resist the pun
and adding "ER" or Elizabeth Regina.
