ON SIMONTON STREET

I SET
out a fresh bowl of water several times a day
Simonton Street runs parallel to
very busy Duval Street
and many locals prefer to walk here with their dogs.

It's very crowded as New Year's approaches...

YESTERDAY....

THE 28TH...

TODAY
is the 28th of December.
I have crisp new felt pens
for calligraphy
in Key West.
We are one of the warmest places
in the country which makes
a happy holiday for all the tourists.

"SMACKEREL"

LIPS
like these were made to be kissed.
Mixed on rag board.

Print available.

"PAPA CAT"

SECOND
edition with enhanced collage corners.
But
still 24 toes....

"BERRY-LY HUNGRY"

WATERCOLOR
over oil pastel resist.

"TRANCE"

THIS IS TUCKER
artfully arranged near
my giclee called
"TRANCE".

IT's
a very sweet  and clever portrait;
Tucker is so obloging.
I mean obliging.

Thanks for the cheer, Jen Shook!

SAINT FRANCIS, seated

is a full sheet watercolor.
Collage of two pieces
of rag paper.

He is feeding two birds.

They look like very detailed woodblock prints;
I used really fine brushes.
And a razor for the" cracked" paper.

A closer look at his profile.

There is fine pattern in the fabric designs.

There is a little Italian hill-town, too.

I rarely paint pure watercolor these days
so this is fun to see.

"PAPA CAT II"

"PAPA CAT'
has been very popular
The 25 prints are nearly gone;
I just sold the original as well.

I have altered the image with a collage
border and will do a second edition.

"POOR BABY"

"POOR BABY"
Watercolor on collage.

Here in its frame with bronzed liner.

"STORY TIME"

"STORY TIME"
is watercolor over collage
of papers with silver leaf.
The "silver" is really
aluminum to avoid oxidation.

The moon is listening, too.

Simonton Street, Key West.

"KISSES" close up....

Here's a better look at
one of the frames I've been
painting and waxing
This one for "KISSES."

Acrylic and paste wax over injected plastic.

Now it looks like weighty bronze.

"GARDENERS"

ONE
of three new mixed media paintings
from my studio. On sanded paper.
This started out as a completely
different subject.

The spiral on the left melon
is all that is left of the original design.
I repeated the device on the other melons:
one for each bird.

I like this little guy up top. There's a bit of 23 carat gold
at his feet.

"FAMILY TREES"

A NEW WATERCOLOR
on sanded paper.
About 9 x 14 inches.

I like the shapes in the couple up top.

"RAIN BIRDS"

'Been painting
watercolors on paper
over a ground of sanded acrylic.

I also have a batch of new brushes
They're liners which hold lots of paint
and are usually employed
for pin-striping.

Here's a detail of the 9 x 12 work before completion.

I've laid in some gold and bright white markings
after this shot.

MAYBE ZOMBIE....

THE ZOMBIE BIKE RIDE
is tomorrow eve' (20th) in Key West.
I worked on an elaborate but too-tight mask
which is in the trash now.

I DID paint this t-shirt today
at the studio:

Started with the nose
and worked out from there in Liquitex.

Freehand lesson in symmetry
(enhanced to show strokes):
I got in the groove.
New brushes, too!

Sort of Hellinistic....
Don't know if I'll make it for the ride:
I've got the bike and the t-shirt
but the stamina?
WET PAINT
sold out of some of my giclees today...

A nice problem!

Dog Day Morning

Sent some prints off
to smiley repeat clients
from
which in the last two years has
rescued more than a thousand dogs
abandoned into the Florida Everglades.

I think Annie's cute;
so did her new owners!
I meet lots of dogs and their owners on

CUDJOE PIRATES!!!

THIEVES
Have stolen J.'s and A.'s boat.

Just in time for their anniversary.

A hand-finished frame
around the finished oil on collage.
About 16 inches square.

Letter forms in the speedy landscape!
