FINITO...

VERY quiet in town after the tropical storm.
Finished up these girls today
and placed them alongside my
business card so you can see how small it is.

Oil on collage 6 X 8 inches.
Most of the work was done with that liner brush.

"PEARLS' by David Scott Meier

"PEARLS"
is one of three male nudes
I've completed this week
All are linked by subject, color, dimension
and materials:
in this case acrylic and pencil on Ampersand panel.

The borders are rich looking.
Here's a detailed look at another:

Swimming away....

I refer to this painting
with two different titles, I find.
Call it
"HOSPITALITY"
or
"WELCOME."

I like the second title best,
and it pleases the nice, smiling, new owners, too.

The wall for it has not been built yet
but I know she'll be happy there.

I get to look at her 'til she moves.
Oil on canvas; 24 X 56 or so...

LITTLE SWIMMER

A SMALL
oil painting on a Ampersand panel.
For my b-day show in June.

A note on the face:

I kept rubbing out the face
then asked aloud,
"Where's the light source?"

A flick of white started the final visage of the mermaid.
Good.

Margaritaville's "Parrot Head"

"PARROT HEAD"
may now be seen on the Margaritaville web catalog.

Original sold. 16 x 20 oil on panel.

I pulled it from its display at
FRANGIPANI GALLERY for
exhibition at a group show at the Art Center.
It was in my studio for 20 minutes until
a couple from New Hampshire spotted it.

Now, I will have to show something else.
I think a big genie.....

THIS GUY

has two new friends.

Those who follow Jimmy Buffett's
tunes and island lifestyle are
"PARROT HEADS."
Here's a nod to those rummy tourists!

SWIMMER

A NEW SWIMMER...
based on the offering of hospitality.
Oil on canvas.
16 inches by 47 inches.

The geometry of pineapples.

The painting techniques include the scrapings
of palette knife and credit cards.

The "goal" I set for this work:
mostly middle and light values.

PAPER, paper everywhere!

MY STUDIO
has become a messy place. Give me a flat surface
and I will stack stuff on it!
Post tax-time, I am tackling and rearranging files
and feeding my paper shredder.
Above and below are two more delicate ways
to cut into paper.
The paper above has been gessoed, lacquered
and treated with patinating acids
on copper/brass paints.
The mermaid scene has been sealed  with
blue Rustoleum and ended up
with an antiqued finish.
My incrusted left-hand gives you a idea
of the cut-out's size. Both were done one night at the gallery.

PEARLS

A quick sketch using Corel Painter.
I want to make more creative backgrounds;
this one is done using the sponge feature followed by a smear with
the palette knife feature.

'GOOD DAY'

THIS PALETTE
of muted colors gives a cloudy atmosphere
to an
underwater introduction.
Starting as a green form on
pink background, I started to
think of Milton Avery's paintings.
Painter 11.

'Sirena'

I'm always painting mermaids; my first show here in Key West was nothing but mermaids and mermen. A friend calls herself 'Sirena Loca'  or 'crazy mermaid.' Mermaids are clever and cunning and 'crazy like a fox.'

This little painting is alkyd oil on gesso'd museum rag board. Simply signed with a symmetrical  'M.' I think I'll make a print of this for my fans at the gallery.
