SCARY!!!

Pretty in Pink for
Illustration Friday!

"SCARY" is this week's word.

IT'S FANTASY FEST
IN KEY WEST.
We close the gallery:
it's pretty incredible
people watching.

We hide out at night like the
smart cat.

Acrylic and typo film.
Wee:  3.5 inches square.

"TRANCE"

SEE how irregular
the edges are?

I want to show 'em before they're
covered by the frame.

Oil enamel, acrylic, ink and watercolor.

'PRO SHOP'

MY DOGS
aren't fond of tennis balls...
This one is.
What's wrong with this collage?
'Got my "N's" wrong.

Acrylic, water color, pencil, ink.

BIRD SONG

PLAYING
in Painter.

He plays a simple song
to the bird in thanks for
the feathers.

EVENING LIGHTS

Yves and Alan
have a great garden.
There are all sorts of well-loved
and well-placed plants
in the deep, long lot.
Even water lilies!

We strolled over with our cocktails to join them there.
Alan had suspended scores (!) of tiny votive lamps
among the shadows. Bewitching!

Some final sunbeams on the glossy leaves
were easily confused with the tiny flames.

Mike the sproodle guards the beaujolaise.

"NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH"

MAKING COLLAGES
to fit some
double rag mats
(which will cover the uneven edges);
this is called
"The Best Time of the Day."

THE LOST PEARL

ONE
of the neat options in Painter
is a 'mirror' drawing tool.

The face structure
and
radiating leaves are drawn with it.
You can position an axis point
(or multiple points!)
in the composition and rotate its angle.
I dragged it off the picture
to finish the lettering, etc.

I'M NEW HERE...

I'M NO HUMAN
but I'll have a look.

'SCATTERED PINATA SPIDERS'

"SCATTERED"
is the word of the week from
ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY.
'Drew this, this morning in Painter
'cause I'm on vacation.

Pinata Spiders are great:
you can play with them or eat them.
But I think little bunny boy
was hoping for candy corn.

Green Wood Smoke

Some wood
does burn green.
We used to cook with cut alder wood from the creekside
north of San Francisco.
'Must be thinking of firewood
because I want it to get cool enough
to light one in the evening.

88 f. yesterday.....

Thank you note...

The fine folks
at the

are getting ready for this year's
Beastie Ball
and
Holiday Market.
Those people love their animals
and know how to have a good time!

This guy was a quick doodle attached to a note.

Oh, "K."

Here's "K."

"HURRY, HERALD"

THOUGH HARDLY GREEK,
this messenger has the
quality of black-figure painting
on ancient pottery.
The silhouette is
established and details removed
by scraffito technique.

In this case, I drew with a sharp eraser
in Painter 12.

PLAYFUL ALPHABET

PLAYING in Painter
'til
I heard the wine being opened.
That was right around 'U.'

Huh, skipped 'K,' too! I'll give that letter its own post.

PIRACY!

RECENTLY
I dedicated a humorous nude
to the client's husband.
"Could you make it to 'The Bikini Thief,' please?"

It was their anniversary.

You'll notice Corel Painter has not improved my spelling...

Astronaut with Ranch-style House

The week's word is
'CONTRAPTION.'
Anything that is tagged with that derogatory moniker
usually flies and is new-fangled.
But if you're a kid in your yard in
 the '60's,
your best bet to fly is a cardboard box.
The colander helmet: optional.

Conga?

The conga sequence in
'WONDERFUL TOWN'
always cracks me up.
This dancer reminds me a bit of
R. Roberts. One of the best drag queens in town.
Good legs, good voice and he
spends a bunch on his costumes.
I added the little high heel
as a dedication and
appreciation of his talents.

About 5 x 7 inches.

Dance,dance,dance!

Shake it!
Watercolor pencil on gesso'd board.
Typo film for his features.
5 x 7 inches.
That's music in the air.

RRRRUFFF...

Well,
I wouldn't say
I have no idea what I'm doing;
But I'm just working intuitively
in Corel Painter 12.
I love having clean hands, too.

RED COAT

PAINTER play....

'HIBERNATE'

'HIBERNATE'
is word-of-the-week
on
Illustration Friday.

I imagine there'll be more bears
than in a leather bar on Saturday night.
Uhhh, in the Castro.
Painter 12.

ARISTIDE MAILLOL WOODCUTS

LOOKING AT
L.P. records at the Salvation Army.
I came across these woodcuts on and inside the
album for 'DAPNES ET CHLOE.'

They are in the collection of
The Museum of Modern Art, NY.
and are by Aristide Maillol.

The images are foxed and stained so I tinted them.

I like this last; a bather in reeds.

Dance, dance, dance!

I used to draw more figures when I went to the gym.
Watercolor pencil and acrylic.
Big signature, small original.

Guilty?

'UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY'
I support justice for clumsy pets.
Repeat offenders face probation.
Acrylic, watercolor and india ink.
