KEY WEST has many banyan trees. They're very sculptural: twisting broad trunks with expansive roots and pendant air-roots.
This oil painting (in progress) has a rough-textured background (palette knife) with roots and leaves laid over using stencils I cut from Strathmore bristol paper.

Since the texture of the board is rough, the stencils can be wiped and flipped for variations
without adding too much unintended paint littering the surface.
