'BATH TUB'

AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE
I don't think I could become an animator.
But I really like to dip into blogs about
character design
and look at digital projects from
animators here and in Europe.
It would be satisfying to design a character
based on this big genie cooling off in an
asian lagoon.
He started off as three shapes: the big kidney form
of his body and arms, the knee and the head. Corel Painter.

post most regularly as animators and instructors.

JINN (under the INFLUENCE?)

THIS CONTENT GENIE
looks like he's stuck in
a Tanqueray bottle
or
a bottle of
Bombay Saphire.
Illustration Friday's word is 'influence.'

It's a painting with
an interesting texture.
The background is alkyd oil.
I pressed a hard pencil onto the dry surface
to draw the genie (jinn) and
describe the bottle's shape.
The I masked off the simple shape
and rubbed oil pastel over
the depressed design.

THEN
gouache is flowed into the
drawing's grooves.
after fixing I
give him an exotic locale
with a
23 carat gold minaret/parrapet
combo.

Here's a close-up of
black and orange and white gouache
on the oil pastel surface.
all on rag board.
8.5 X 10.5 inches.

''THREE WISHES'

'THREE WISHES'
is a mixed medium painting
with a collage border.

I like to paint pattern repeat that
LOOKS like block printing but isn't.
I like the way the genie's lamp's handle
sort of repeats the paisley designs.

A little gold scroll in the center.
And more curvy lines in a typographical border
which I took from the key caps on my Mac.
I typed them out in a larger font size
and printed them on vellum.
Then a whitewash of acrylic before
gluing them around the painting.
